Stroke Patient Care

A stroke is a sudden loss of brain function caused by a blockage in a blood vessel (ischemic stroke) or a rupture in a blood vessel (hemorrhagic stroke). The interruption in blood flow prevents oxygen from reaching the brain, causing cells to die.

The effects of a stroke depend on which cells are damaged. One-third to two-thirds of stroke survivors need rehabilitation for a loss of physical or cognitive function or difficulty with communication skills. Stroke is the leading cause of adult disability, and the third leading cause of death.

A stroke is a medical emergency. If you think someone may be having a stroke, take him/her to the Hospital right away. Acting quickly could save the person’s life and prevent lasting disability.

Heart Patient Care

Heart disease is the second leading cause of death in India. The most common heart attack symptom is chest pain or discomfort.

Also called ischemic heart disease, coronary heart disease or coronary artery disease is a serious condition in which a sticky, waxy substance called plaque slowly builds up in the arteries of the heart, narrowing and hardening them (atherosclerosis).

If the plaque ruptures, the body tries to repair it by creating a blood clot. The clot can become large enough to partly or completely block blood flow, depriving heart tissue of oxygen and causing a heart attack.

Cancer Patient Care

Cancer is a group of diseases that cause cells in our bodies to grow abnormally. All cells carry instructions for when they should grow, divide and die. If these instructions are not followed, cells can grow out of control, or they do not die when they’re supposed to. As these abnormal cells continue to divide, they can develop into lumps called “tumours.”

Not all tumours are cancerous (malignant). They can also be non-cancerous (benign). Non-cancerous tumours usually grow in just one place and, once removed, they are unlikely to grow back. Cancerous tumours, however, can grow into surrounding tissues and spread to other areas of the body (metastatic cancer). If the cells have spread, cancer may still grow even after the tumour has been removed.

Dementia Patient Care

A diagnosis of Dementia is life changing for both the individual with the disease and their family and loved ones.

Dementia is the name for a set of symptoms that can happen when brain cells are damaged. This prevents the cells from communicating normally with each other, which can affect thinking, emotions and behaviour.

Dementia symptoms include:

  • Memory loss

  • Problems with language and communication

  • Trouble concentrating

  • Difficult with reasoning, judgment or problem-solving

  • Changes in behaviour, mood or motivation

  • Problems with visual perception

These symptoms of mental decline are progressive, meaning that they gradually get worse. They can become severe enough to affect a person’s daily life and everyday activities. Over time, the individual requires more and more assistance, and eventually may need constant care and supervision.
